Jean-René Germanier is regarded by many as one of Switzerland’s top wine producers. Founded in 1886, making it one of the oldest Swiss wineries, this family owned company is now headed by 3rd generation Jean-René and his nephew Gilles Besse. The boutique winery produces unique, award-winning wines such as Cayas, Mitis and Cornalin Champmarais which are enjoyed at the best tables in Europe.
The 2019 Petite Arvine is intense and deep on the concentrated but elegant and slightly flinty nose. Medium to full-bodied, intense and persistently salty on the palate, with sustainable quince and tropical stone fruit aromas as well as nice bitters (of mandarins, grapefruit and oranges) toward the finish, this is an intensely fruity, structured and salty Arvine with fine tannins and a long, rich and aromatic finish. This comes from partly overripe grapes, which give this wine beautiful concentrated juiciness and fruit intensity. An impressive wine that you could but shouldn’t drink today. You’d be better waiting 5-10 years. Tasted in February 2021. Wine Advocate 92+ (2019)
An artisan winery located in Eastern Georgia that specializes in the 8,000 year old Georgian Qvevri wine making tradition and sources all their grapes sourced from at least 50 year-old vines. Making wines from old vines in Georgia is a rare and difficult project since during soviet times most older vines were ripped up and replaced so as to produce more grapes.
