Description

Located in the village of Orschwihr and established in 1691, Domaine Valentin Zusslin is a biodynamic estate now managed by 13th generation brother and sister team of Jean-Paul and Marie Zusslin. The vines are planted on the slopes of the Bollenberg, Clos Liebenberg and Grand Cru Pfingstberg. In 1997 the domaine converted to biodynamic viticulture. Most of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar is done by hand, this allows the grapes to express the full potential and the unique terroirs of the Domaine.

The 2018 Gewurztraminer Bollenberg is perfectly aromatic on the nose that delivers all you like to have from Gewurtz: chalk and lychee, along with some spicy and floral notes, of course. Full-bodied, rich and finessed, with a remarkable mineral freshness thanks to the Jurassic and Oligocene limestone terroir of the Bollenberg nature reserve that is home to Mediterranean plants and rare birds. This is an off-dry Gewürztraminer with a round and silky texture and very fine tannins that perfectly combine with mineral freshness. This is a great wine, in fact, and proves that 2018 has been a great vintage for the Zusslins. Wine Advocate 94 (2018)
