The husband and wife team of Brendan and Laura Carter are the minds behind this relatively new wine label that is based in the Adelaide Hills but draws its fruit from as far away as the Riverland and Clare Valley. Fiano and Nero d'Avola come from the Riverland, where the Carters say they can achieve economically viable crops from those varieties without much (if any) irrigation. The Piemontese varieties come from the Polish Hill River section of Clare Valley, the Nebbiolo from a vineyard originally planted by Penfolds in 1990. These are fun, engaging wines meant to be consumed in their youth, with the focus largely on fruit quality.

The 2021 Alluvium Fiano is clothy and complex on the nose, with poached nashi pear, star anise and clove, cut fennel, Granny Smith apple, egg whites, lanolin and white flowers. In the mouth, the wine is broadly shaped and textured. There's loads of very fine, chalky/grippy phenolics that push the fruit characters out to the bounds of the palate. It has a nice, clean, pear pie finish. Salty, briny. Good! 12.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam. Certified B Corporation. Wine Advocate 91
