Description

The Rivetti brothers of La Spinetta have revolutionized the conception of long-ageing and gruesomely tannic Piedmont wines. Their range of Barolo, Barbarescos and Barberas are powerful yet forward and fruity. The modern style of their wines certainly makes Nebbiolos from the northwest corner of Italy much more approachable when young.

La Spinetta’s 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo (from young vines in Starderi) is gorgeous in this vintage. Sweet raspberries, flowers, mint and herbs swirl around in the glass, until the firm Nebbiolo tannins catch up to support the powerful finish. Once again, the Langhe Nebbiolo here over delivers for the money. It is easily the equal of many Barbarescos in this vintage. Wine Advocate 91 (2009)
