Benanti, Etna DOC Rosso 2021

Description

Benanti is one of the most prestigious winery located in Sicily, where grapes have been grown on the flanks of Mount Etna for a while now. The Benanti family has been making wine for passion since the late 1800s in Viagrande. Giuseppe led the winery for 25 years, contributing greatly to the development and the growth of the whole region. In 2013, Antonio and Salvino Benanti took over from their father Giuseppe, sharing the same vision, dreams and passion.The 2016 Etna Rosso is a blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio. The grapes were fermented separately. The Nerello Mascalese is aged in barrique for ten months, whereas the Nerello Cappuccio only sees stainless steel. This vintage is slightly lacking in intensity. You get aromas of wild berry, licorice and tar, but the volume is turned down a notch or two. Some 70,000 bottles were produced. Wine Advocate 88
